The school is open five days a week from Monday to Friday.
Children are welcome between 7:45 – 8:00. After greeting the teachers, they put their bag, shoes and snack box in the proper places, and can start working.
As the year progresses the children learn how to work in their new environment and can concentrate for a longer time. The first Montessori work period will then become longer. The Montessori curriculum uses a variety of teaching materials for this age group and art activities play a significant role during the work period. Individual and group work focuses on cognitive, academic, emotional, and social skill building.
The children learn how to take care of themselves through eating preparations: each child has his/her own cup and also learns to set the table prior to eating.
At circle time, a group activity, the teacher puts on some music so the children know it is time to tidy up and go to the circle. There they sit together to learn, discuss and participate in activities such as games, stories, listening to music, dancing and singing. The teachers will explain how to behave gracefully and courteously.
If the weather allows, children can go outside. They can swing, run and play observe butterflies and plants, or work in the garden. This is followed by a second work period, when children can finish incomplete tasks before it is lunch time.
Half-day children who do not have lunch at the school can be picked up at 11:25. Children having lunch at the school will prepare the table. Those going home after lunch can be picked up at 12:00. After eating, full-day children have a quiet time, when they can choose to take a nap or just relax by lying down with books. Children can be picked up to go home at 16:00, or earlier by prior arrangement.
